Getting started

I have an injury – where do I start?

Book a MOVE Assessment (€60): a full one-to-one session where Becky assesses your injury, identifies the root cause, reviews your movement and load history and gives you a clear plan. No referral, diagnosis or GP visit needed.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. Athletic therapists are primary contact practitioners, so you can book directly. If your assessment shows something that needs further investigation or imaging, we’ll advise you and help direct you to the right service.

What should I bring to my first appointment?

Comfortable clothing you can move in (shorts and a t-shirt are ideal). Bring any scan results, imaging reports or hospital discharge notes if you have them, and be ready to talk through your injury history, your sport and your goals.

How long is the first session?

The MOVE Assessment is about 60 minutes. Follow-ups and check-ins are typically 45–60 minutes.

Who is ActiveLife Therapy for?

Active adults and athletes: GAA and rugby players, runners, gym-goers and anyone who uses their body regularly. You don’t need to be elite. It’s a good fit if:

  • An injury keeps coming back
  • You’ve been told to rest and it hasn’t fixed it
  • You’re unsure you’re ready to return to sport
  • You want to prevent injury before pre-season
  • You’re recovering from surgery
  • You have a niggle you’ve ignored for weeks

Still unsure? Message Becky before you book.

The MOVE Framework

What is the MOVE Framework?

A structured four-step recovery system: Mobilise (assessment, root cause, baseline), Organise (personalised weekly plan), Validate (objective retesting before return) and Elevate (long-term performance and prevention). Every client goes through all four stages.

How long does it take?

It depends on the injury. A muscle strain may take 4–6 weeks; post-surgical or chronic injuries take longer. You move on when you’ve met the criteria for each stage, not by the calendar.

Can I skip stages if I feel fine?

No. Feeling fine isn’t the same as being ready, and most re-injuries happen when athletes return because they feel okay. The Validate stage uses objective tests to prevent premature return.

What makes it different from standard treatment?

Root-cause focus, measurable progression with objective criteria at every stage, and system thinking: recovery as a structured process, not a series of isolated sessions.

Can you give me official clearance to return to play?

Yes. After the Validate stage we produce a written Return-to-Sport Readiness Report documenting tests, results and a clear recommendation. You can share it with your club, county management or team medical staff.

Can I still train during the programme?

In most cases, yes, within set limits. Keeping you moving is a core principle. Your programme states what you can and can’t do at each stage.

How quickly will I see progress?

Most clients notice improvement in pain and movement quality within 2–3 weeks. Tissue healing typically takes 4–12 weeks. Progress is tracked against your baseline throughout.

Which programme should I choose?

If unsure, start with the MOVE Assessment (€60). You won’t be pushed toward a more expensive option if it isn’t necessary. Athletes heading into pre-season with an injury history usually start with the GAA Pre-Season Reset; post-injury athletes nearing return, the Return-to-Play Test Week.

Is treatment covered by health insurance?

It varies by provider and policy, so check with your insurer. We can provide receipts and supporting documentation for claims.

Can you work with our team or club?

Yes. The Team MOVE Experience (€300–€600) includes pre-season screening for the group, an injury-prevention session and a team MOVE system for coaches and management. Message Becky to discuss your squad.

When should I book the GAA Pre-Season Reset?

3–4 weeks before your squad pre-season starts. It runs mainly January to March, and spaces are limited, so book early.

Is strength & conditioning included?

All MOVE programmes include rehab-based strength work. For a full integration with your gym programme, the MOVE + S&C Integration (€399) is designed for performance athletes.

Do you offer online sessions?

The initial assessment is in person at the clinic. Some follow-up check-ins and plan reviews may be remote, discussed after your assessment.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on your injury and results. Between sessions you’ll have a clear home programme; consistent clients typically progress faster with fewer visits. The goal is a system you can manage yourself.

About athletic therapy

What is athletic therapy?

A healthcare profession specialising in the prevention, assessment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries, particularly in sport. It covers injury assessment, manual therapy, exercise rehab, taping and bracing and return-to-sport programming.

What’s the difference between athletic therapy and physiotherapy?

There’s significant overlap. Athletic therapy emphasises sport-specific rehab and return to performance. Physiotherapy has a broader scope, including neurological, cardiorespiratory and paediatric conditions.

Do you offer dry needling?

Yes. Fine needles inserted into muscle trigger points reduce pain, release tension and improve movement, alongside rehab exercises. It isn’t acupuncture. If it’s appropriate, Becky will discuss it in your assessment.

Do you work with post-surgical clients?

Yes, it’s one of the most common reasons clients come. Bring your discharge notes or post-op guidance and your programme will follow your surgeon’s protocol and your return-to-sport goals.

I keep getting the same injury. Can you help?

That’s exactly what the MOVE Framework addresses. Recurring injuries usually mean the root cause was never found. If you’ve had the same injury twice or more, a MOVE Assessment is likely the most valuable hour you can invest.

What sports do you work with?

GAA (football, hurling, camogie, ladies football), rugby, running and endurance, gym and CrossFit, soccer, and basketball and court sports. If yours isn’t listed, get in touch.

What’s Becky’s GAA experience?

Becky is an official athletic therapist with Wexford Ladies Football and has worked with Wexford Minor Footballers at county level, across football and hurling at club and county.
