Your Questions, Answered

Everything you need to know about ActiveLife Therapy, the MOVE Framework, our services, and what to expect when you book.

  • The best first step is booking a MOVE Assessment (€60). This is a full one-to-one session with Becky where she'll assess your injury, identify the root cause, review your movement and load history, and give you a clear plan for what happens next.

You don't need a referral, a diagnosis, or to have seen a GP first. Just book and come in.

💡 The MOVE Assessment is the entry point to everything at ActiveLife Therapy. It tells us exactly what you need — and exactly what you don't.

  • No referral is needed. You can book directly with ActiveLife Therapy at any time. Athletic therapists are primary contact practitioners, which means you can come straight to us without needing to see a GP or specialist first.

If we identify something during your assessment that requires further medical investigation or imaging, we'll advise you and can help direct you to the appropriate service.

  • Wear or bring comfortable clothing that allows movement — shorts and a t-shirt are ideal. If you're coming for a lower limb issue, having shorts available makes assessment much easier.

If you have any previous scan results, imaging reports, or discharge notes from hospital, bring those along too. They're useful context but not essential if you don't have them.

Most importantly, come ready to talk through your injury history, your sport, and what you're hoping to achieve. The more context you give Becky, the better your plan will be.

  • The MOVE Assessment is approximately 60 minutes. This gives enough time for a thorough injury history, a full movement screen, root cause identification, and a clear plan overview before you leave.

Follow-up sessions and programme check-ins are typically 45 to 60 minutes depending on what's needed.

  • ActiveLife Therapy works primarily with active adults and athletes — GAA players, rugby players, runners, gym-goers, and anyone who uses their body regularly and wants to recover properly or perform better.

You don't need to be an elite athlete. If you train, play sport, or want to stay active and are being held back by an injury or physical limitation, this service is for you.

  • If any of the following apply to you, the MOVE Assessment is a good fit:

    • You have a recurring injury that keeps coming back

    • You've been told to rest but it hasn't fixed the problem

    • You're not sure if you're ready to return to sport

    • You want to prevent injuries before pre-season

    • You're recovering from surgery and want a structured plan

    • You have a niggle you've been ignoring for weeks

If you're still unsure, reach out directly — Becky is happy to answer a quick question before you book.

  • The MOVE Framework is the structured four-step recovery and return-to-performance system used at ActiveLife Therapy. It replaces reactive, symptom-based treatment with a measurable, progressive process.

    • M — Mobilise: Full assessment, root cause identification, baseline testing

    • O — Organise: Personalised weekly plan built around your sport and schedule

    • V — Validate: Objective retesting to confirm readiness before return to sport

    • E — Elevate: Long-term performance and prevention system

Every client goes through all four stages. Nothing is skipped.

  • It depends entirely on the nature and severity of your injury. A muscle strain may progress through all four stages in 4–6 weeks. A post-surgical recovery or a more complex chronic injury may take significantly longer.

The MOVE Framework isn't a fixed-duration programme — it's a system. You move through each stage when you've met the criteria for that stage, not based on an arbitrary timeline.

💡 This is what makes the MOVE Framework different — progress is determined by objective testing, not by weeks on a calendar.

  • No — and this is intentional. Feeling fine is not the same as being ready. Most re-injuries happen because athletes return when they feel okay, not when they've actually met the physical requirements to return safely.

The Validate stage in particular exists specifically to prevent premature return to sport. It's a set of objective tests — not a feeling. Every stage must be cleared before moving to the next.

  • The MOVE Framework is designed for musculoskeletal injuries and sports rehabilitation — muscle strains, tendon issues, ligament injuries, joint problems, post-surgical recovery, and overuse conditions.

The specific programme within the framework is built around your individual injury type, so while the structure is consistent, the content is completely tailored to your situation.

  • Most injury treatment is reactive and passive — you come in when it hurts, get some treatment, and hope it settles. There's rarely a structured plan, measurable benchmarks, or a clear endpoint.

The MOVE Framework is built on three principles that make it different:

    • Root cause focus — we fix what's actually causing the problem, not just the symptom

    • Measurable progression — every stage has objective criteria that must be met before moving forward

    • System thinking — recovery is treated as a structured process, not a series of isolated sessions

  • The MOVE Assessment is €60 and is the starting point for all clients. From there, the programme you move onto depends on your needs. Other services include:

    • Strong Off-Season Plan — €249

    • Return-to-Play Test Week — €99

    • Recovery Club Monthly — €80/month

    • GAA Pre-Season Reset Bundle — €125

    • MOVE + S&C Integration — €399

    • Team MOVE Experience — €300–€600

  • Coverage varies depending on your insurance provider and policy. We recommend contacting your insurer directly to confirm whether athletic therapy is covered under your plan and what documentation they require.

We can provide receipts and any supporting documentation needed for insurance claims.

  • If you're unsure, always start with the MOVE Assessment (€60). That session gives us the full picture and allows Becky to recommend the most appropriate programme for your situation. You won't be pushed toward a more expensive option if it isn't necessary.

If you're an athlete heading into pre-season with a history of injury, the GAA Pre-Season Reset Bundle is usually the best starting point. If you're post-injury and approaching return to sport, the Return-to-Play Test Week is most relevant.

  • Yes. The Team MOVE Experience (€300–€600) is designed for clubs, squads, and schools. It includes pre-season screening for the full group, an injury prevention education session, and a team MOVE system that coaches and management can implement throughout the year.

It's a cost-effective way to protect an entire squad — one session that gives every player a starting point and gives the management team a system to work from. Contact Becky directly to discuss your squad's needs.

  • The initial MOVE Assessment is conducted in person at our clinic in Wexford, as a hands-on assessment is essential for accurate diagnosis and movement screening.

Depending on your programme and circumstances, some follow-up check-ins and plan reviews may be conducted remotely. This is discussed on an individual basis after your initial assessment.

  • This depends entirely on your injury and your goals. The MOVE Framework is not a fixed number of sessions — it's a structured system that progresses based on your individual testing results.

What we can tell you is that between sessions, you'll have a clear home programme to work through. Clients who are consistent with their between-session work typically progress faster and require fewer clinic visits overall.

💡 The goal at ActiveLife Therapy is to give you a system you can manage yourself — not to keep you coming back indefinitely.

  • Athletic therapy is a healthcare profession specialising in the prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries — particularly in the context of sport and physical activity.

Athletic therapists are trained in injury assessment, manual therapy, exercise rehabilitation, taping and bracing, and return-to-sport programming. The emphasis is on active, performance-focused recovery rather than passive treatment alone.

  • Both professions assess and treat musculoskeletal injuries, and there is significant overlap in what they do. The key distinction is in focus and training emphasis.

Athletic therapy has a strong emphasis on sport-specific rehabilitation and return to performance. Athletic therapists are trained extensively in the demands of sport and physical activity, making them particularly well suited to working with active individuals and athletes who want to return to their sport safely and at the same level — or higher.

Physiotherapy covers a broader scope of practice including neurological, cardiorespiratory, and paediatric conditions, in addition to musculoskeletal work.

  • Yes. Dry needling is a technique that uses fine needles inserted into muscle trigger points to reduce pain, release tension, and improve movement. It's commonly used alongside rehabilitation exercises for conditions including muscle tightness, tendonopathy, and chronic pain.

It is not acupuncture — it is a Western, evidence-informed technique used specifically for musculoskeletal conditions. If dry needling is appropriate for your situation, Becky will discuss it with you as part of your assessment.

  • All MOVE programmes include rehabilitation-based strength work as a core component. For athletes who want a full integration of their rehab and their gym programme, the MOVE + S&C Integration (€399) is specifically designed to bridge the two.

This service is suited to performance athletes who want to not just recover from injury but build physical capacity beyond where they were before it.

  • Becky is the official athletic therapist for Wexford Ladies Intermediate Football and has worked with Wexford Minor Footballers at county level. Her work with GAA athletes spans football and hurling across club and county.

She understands the specific physical demands of Gaelic games — the repeated sprinting, contact, change of direction — and builds her programmes around those demands rather than generic injury templates.

  • ActiveLife Therapy works with athletes from a wide range of sports including:

    • GAA — football, hurling, camogie, ladies football

    • Rugby

    • Running and endurance sports

    • Gym-based training and CrossFit

    • Soccer

    • Basketball and court sports

If your sport isn't listed, get in touch — the MOVE Framework is adaptable to any sport that involves structured physical demand.

  • Ideally, book the GAA Pre-Season Reset Bundle 3–4 weeks before your squad pre-season starts. This gives enough time to run through the assessment, build a 4-week individual plan, and establish your baseline before the group programme loads up.

The bundle runs primarily from January to March ahead of the league season. Spaces are limited — if you're thinking about it, early booking is recommended.

  • Yes. Following the Validate stage of the MOVE Framework, we produce a written Return-to-Sport Readiness Report that documents the tests completed, results, and a clear recommendation on return to play.

This report can be shared with your club, county management, or team medical staff as required.

  • In most cases, yes — within appropriate parameters. One of the core principles of the MOVE Framework is keeping you moving throughout recovery rather than stopping everything.

Your programme will specify what you can and cannot do at each stage. For some injuries and some stages, modified training is not only permitted but actively encouraged. What you're doing, the volume, and the intensity will all be managed carefully.

  • Most clients notice meaningful improvement within the first 2–3 weeks, particularly in terms of pain reduction and movement quality. Structural tissue healing takes longer — typically 4–12 weeks depending on the tissue type and the severity of injury.

Progress is tracked against your initial baseline throughout the programme, so you'll always have an objective measure of how far you've come — not just a subjective sense of whether things feel better.

  • Yes. Post-surgical rehabilitation is one of the most common reasons clients come to ActiveLife Therapy. The MOVE Framework is well suited to surgical recovery because it provides the structure, progression, and objective benchmarks that post-surgical rehab requires.

If you've recently had surgery, bring any discharge notes or post-op guidance from your consultant to your MOVE Assessment. We'll build your programme in line with their surgical protocol and your return-to-sport goals.

  • This is one of the most common situations we see — and exactly what the MOVE Framework is designed to address. Recurring injuries almost always mean the root cause was never properly identified or addressed the first time.

The Mobilise stage digs into why the injury keeps happening — movement patterns, strength deficits, load management, biomechanics — and builds a programme that targets those underlying drivers rather than just treating the symptom each time it flares.

💡 If you've had the same injury two or more times, a MOVE Assessment is probably the most valuable hour you can invest in your body right now.
